The tour starts with the stage from Radstadt to Obertauern - this route was one of the few ways to cross the Central Alps in the times of the Roman Empire. The Tauern Pass is 1,738m above sea level. Via Mauterndorf and St. Michael (B99) you reach the steeper Katschberg (1,641m above sea level) with an incline of up to 15%. You stay on the B99 until you reach Spittal. In the city center, turn right at Porcia Castle and drive along the B100 along the Drau until Lienz. The nice city cafes and restaurants on the remarkable city square are perfect to take a longer break. Via the Iselsberg you drive on the B107 towards Heiligenblut. Everyone should have seen the panorama with the gothic church and Austria's highest mountain - the Großglockner (3,798m) in the background. Via the Großglockner high alpine road, after the toll station, you go up to Hochtor and Edelweißspitze (2,571m). If you want to experience the Großglockner and the Pasterze (glacier) up close, you shouldn´t miss the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. The descent down to Bruck, where you turn right into the Salzach Valley, seems to offer even more hairpin bends than the way up. You drive along the Salzach on the B311 to St. Johann. You pass the cathedral towards Wagrain and on the B163 to Altenmarkt and return to Radstadt.
