In 2004 the Peace Museum Gernika-Lumo had begun to prepare a peace migration from Pforzheim to Gernika-Lumo. Michael Kasper, the head of the Peace Institute, started a query with the various associations, schools and institutions about the city of Pforzheim. The Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences, the Black Forest Association and the German Alpine Association, section Pforzheim, agreed to join in. The objective was to: On February 26, 2005, 60 years after the destruction of Pforzheim) and on April 26, 2005, 68 years after the bombardment of Gernika-Lumo) to enter Gernika-Lumo. The path also crossed Gurs with the Camp de Gurs (concentration camp) where many people, especially Jews from southern Germany and Pforzheim, were murdered. In one role, the hikers carried the message of peace across Europe, which was proclaimed at the destination in Gernika-Lumo.
In 60 stages across Baden-Wuerttemberg, Alsace, Burgundy, into the Rhone Valley. Over the Black Forest, the Vosges Mountains, the Central Massif and the Pyrenees to the Basque Country. From Irún, the route went along the Camino del Norte along the coast to Gernik-Lumo.
