Thurweg

The hiking trail runs through the varied natural landscape along the Thur. From the surroundings of the Säntis, the hike takes us through the landscapes of the Toggenburg and the Thurtal to the Zürcher Weinland. On the hiking trail you can see the differences that a river can develop in its course. Sometimes tame and sometimes wild, the Thur flows through Lower and Upper Toggenburg. From Wil to the Lower Thur Valley, the Thur is almost completely straightened and the path runs along the traces of water use. Finally, in the Weinland, shortly before the mouth, the river changes again through the renaturalised Thur floodplains into the Rhine. The scenic surroundings of the hike are just as varied as the river itself. From the imposing mountain ranges of the Toggenburg between Churfirst and Säntis, we pass through the hilly and agriculturally used Thurgau. The closer we get to the Rhine, the more the winegrowing dominates.
