Of Art Nouveau and royal builders.
The twelfth stage of the Moselsteig Trail is a typical high-level trail, revealing an unusual number of impressive views down into the Moselle Valley. At the same time it links two charming wine-growing villages, precisely 15 kilometres apart: Ürzig, a traditional Moselle village, steeped in history, with a historical centre characterised by noblemen's houses and half-timbered architecture; and Traben-Trarbach, the famous Art Nouveau village, which around 1900 was Europe's second-largest wine trading location after Bordeaux. High above Traben – on the Mont Royal – you'll find yourself walking on historic ground: King Ludwig XIV had a massive fortress built here at the end of the 17th century.
Please note: On weekends, there is no bus connection in Ürzig!
