Long distance hiking trail along the Baltic Sea coast: 400 km
Between the Priwall peninsula and the seaside resort of Boltenhagen, the dune path is lined with wild dog roses and sea buckthorn. In the distance, the brick churches of the Hanseatic city of Wismar greet you - you can see them immediately from the high steep bank. At Rerik, people like to be enchanted by the seemingly endless blue of the Baltic Sea. Heiligendamm is waiting behind Kühlungsborn with its white houses that gleam with the sails of the ships during the day.
As soon as you climb the cliffs, you will be rewarded with the sight of mighty beech trees just before Nienhagen that stretch their crowns towards the sky. Ghost forest - this name does not come from nowhere: the smooth tree trunks with their mysterious branches gave this place its name. Before Warnemünde, the forest path changes into the lakeside promenade, which leads through the Baltic Sea resort with its proud lighthouse and along picturesque captain's houses. The majority of the next section of the path runs along the beach - hikers can have their feet in the Baltic Sea to reach the Seeheilbad Graal-Müritz.
Thatched houses alongside wild and romantic beaches present themselves on the peninsula of Fischland-Darß-Zingst in front of unique steep cliffs with its trees shaped by the rough wind. Here one of the largest national parks in Germany awaits - the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. Attentive hikers will find unusual souvenirs such as petrified hedgehogs, adder stones or amber on the lonely beaches.
Zeesboats with their red sails are a constant companion on the way to Stralsund. We continue along colorfully spotted meadows and fields to Greifswald. Behind the Hanseatic city is the romantic, mystical Eldena monastery ruin between the trees. The Peenebrücke leads from Wolgast to the island of Usedom. The gently flowing Peene, the dreamy backwaters of the hinterland, the ten-kilometer-long beach promenade with its graceful sea bridges - on the way to Ahlbeck, the sunny island presents the entire spectrum of pre-Pomeranian natural and cultural fascination.
News
Some sections of the path are not accessible. Hikers are asked to walk around these sections, as there may be further cliff demolitions due to invisible underwashing. The communities strive for prompt repairs.
