Stage 2: Capanna Alzasca-Cevio
Long-Distance Hiking
· Ascona-Locarno
Service and contact
A cross-country tour through some marvellously quiet, pristine scenery.
moderate
Distance 9.6 km
A steadily descending path (waymarked red-and-white) leads from the Alzasca refuge to Cevio. Forest alternates with clearing, offering a variety of views.
The path, some of which is new, offers good grip underfoot in the steeper sections between Corte di Fondo and Valle. You continue down to Morella di Sotto, which is surrounded by a large pasture, then zigzag across meadows and through the deciduous forest to the centre of Cevio. The village is home to the Vallemaggia Museum, which focuses on many of the aspects that have shaped the valley through the ages.
There's an hourly bus service between Cevio and Locarno.
