Only shortly after leaving the main road in Ligneuville, you get a view of the Amel valley. From there on, there's plenty for the hiker to discover. Via an easy hiking trail you reach the village of Ondenval, relatively high up, before the trail takes you back into the Amel valley. There, the fish farms typical of this region can be seen. The trail narrows again and then goes straight to the Monastery of St. Raphael, in which monks resided until only recently. Via Montenau, Iveldingen and Deidenberg you then come to Amel, the destination of this hike, passing through some rambling field landscapes.
Author’s recommendation
Montenau ham smoking facility – in the Montenau ham smoking facility you can watch to see how genuine Ardennes ham is made. You can taste the ham in the smokehouse boutique – and of course buy some and take it with you.
