From the source of the Havel river to its estuary: a 9-day tour through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg
The river Havel could hardly have chosen a more beautiful place for its birth. The spring is located in the middle of the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte (Mecklenburg Lake District), surrounded by blue ponds and dense greenery. The Havel cycle path begins in the town Waren (Müritz), then leads to the Havel spring and follows it to its estuary in the Elbe. It passes the castles of Oranienburg and Sanssouci.
The town of Waren (Müritz) with its nature experience centre MÜRITZEUM is particularly worth seeing.
Tourismusverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V.
The cycle path is signposted only from the river Havel spring in the town Ankershagen. Therefore, please follow the signs for the Berlin-Copenhagen cycle path from Waren (Müritz) to Ankershagen.
Occasionally, the cycle path leads over cobblestones or concrete tracks. In general, however, it is easy to drive on and leads along paved and unpaved cycle paths, quiet side roads or farm tracks.
Waren (Müritz) is connected to the motorways A19 and A20 via various federal highways.
