Because of its natural beauty and cultural diversity the Drava River Cycling Route is considered to be one of the most beautiful bike trails in Europe. We recommend the use of trekking bikes.
The trail leads from river’s spring in Italy, through Austrian Carinthia, to Slovenia – where it’s divided into 5 stages (Dravograd-Radlje-Maribor-Ptuj-Ormož-Varaždin). The last one ends in Croatian town Varaždin. The trail runs mostly along local roads and to a lesser extent on bike paths and trails. Due to the different types of road base and the demanding ascent between Podvelka and Lovrenc na Pohorju is the Slovenian part of the trail suitable for well prepared cyclists. We recommend the use of trekking bikes. One of the most interesting adventures that you must experience beside cycling, is the traditional rafting on the Drava river.
The Austrian part of the Drava River Cycling Route was certified with 5 out of 5 stars according to ADFC criteria due to its orderliness, safety and accessibility.
