Paddle through the magnificent archipelago of Hankavesi and tent in Rajasaari island. Listen to the birds and enjoy the first rays of the morning sun over the misty lake.
The Hankavesi archipelago with the scenery of its rugged rocky islands is an ideal kayaking destination for daytrip. The clear-watered Hankavesi is a natural habitat for wild lake trout. It flows through Lake Konnekoski into Lake South Konnevesi. The rapids can be admired from the mainland from Konnekoskentie. There is a barbecue hut and a dry toilet on the edge of the rapids. Konnekoski rapids is also a popular fishing place.
The archipelago offers protection in windy weather. You can spend the night in Rajasaari island in a tent. On Rajasaari, halfway along the route, there is a kayaking pier, a covered campfire site and a hut. The route can be extended for several days in the Hankavesi area, for example by kayaking to the village of Rautalampi or the rock painting of Toussunlinna.
The route starts from Törmälä Holiday and Course Center, which offers accommodation and a summer café. Törmälä makes it possible to combine a canoe trip with a hike in South Konnevesi National Park.
The Rautalampi Museum is located in the middle of the historical village of Rautalampi. The museum showcases the history and art of the area.
Canoeing routes are not marked on waterways, the prerequisite is map reading and navigation skills, as well as the ability to relate one's own canoeing skills to the prevailing and ever-changing weather conditions. Kayaking through the Konnekoski rapids requires rapids equipment and experience in rafting. It should not be paddled with a touring kayak. It is a well-known rafting spot and you can see rafting there almost through the summer. It is difficult to reach Konnekoski from the Hankavesi side and it is recommended to visit Konnekoski from the road side of Konnekoskentie, where there is also a parking lot and a barbeque shed.
