Walk part of the iconic Pembrokeshire Coastal Path from the seaside resort of Broad Haven to the small fishing community of Solva, sitting at the mouth of the River Solva.
This is a stunning coastal path that leaves behind the seaside village of Broad Haven. Broad Haven rests at the south east corner of St Bride's Bay. You will hug the coast as you pass through the rugged coves, and small villages of Nolton Haven and Newgale, towards the delights of Solva.
The are a couple of highlights on this trip. The first being the view at Maidenhead Point over an expansive wide beach leading into Newgate. It's a ideal dog walking beach if you happen to have a furry pal. It's also nice to come into the fishing village of Solva and get the feeling of a lovely community living here.
You may cross small streams and beach areas as you pass through the coves. Please take care and consider the weather conditions before you set out. Again, please take care at the cliff edges and ensure that you stay well back from the edge during high winds, or thick fog. Mist and fog can be a common feature early in the morning.
Although the weather will very much dictate what you take and wear. I would suggest the following:
Although the ascents and decents are not very marked, it can be muddy underfoot during wet weather so it can be very slippy. You may also come across very occasional steep rocky ground. Please take stay well back from loose ground near any cliff edges.
This is a coastal path with little shelter so the top five suggestions for equipment would be:
Please remember to take some money with you to enjoy the pubs in Newgale. This would be a good halfway point to take a break before continuing your walk. Be sure to check that it is open and serving food before you set out.
Keep a look out for the Acorn waymarking that will keep you on track. Although ensure that you monitor your route notes as you go.
There are several good pubs to eat in Little Haven. The Swan, St Brides Inn, The Castle or the The Ocean Cafe Restaurant and Bar in Broad Haven. A great selection of good food. Please check for opening times.
You can find various locals shops Broad Haven which will help you with packed lunches if you don't wish to ask at your accommodation.
You will be able to stop in Newgale for food. The Duke of Edinburgh pub, which is near the beach offer pub food and drinks. It provides outdoor space to eat as well.
Once in Solva you have a choice of a number of bars and restaurants to eat, namely, The Swan Inn, Harbour Inn, or the Royal Geogre just hit the hill from the small harbour.
Solva has a number of shops including a pharmacy if needed.
In all cases please remember to check opening times.
