Solid shoes, wanderlust and a bit of curiosity. A family hike along the Donnersbach in the footsteps of the woodcutters.
Little extra: The Bike & Hike Station... first bike, then hike!
This tour is located in the area of a road block and is therefore closed.
The water ways are usually interesting and fun for children. This is the suggestion has the advantage that you can walk in almost any weather through the gorge. Peace and originality are key elements which join the tracks of pasture walks, which have performed on the woodcutters their dangerous work, the dissolution of clogging.
At the parking lot of the inn "Leitner" is already the first interesting information board. Follow the trail along the stream, about 1.5 km, until the actual start of gorge. On the gravel banks can grenades (red semi-precious stones) found, which are mainly used in traditional costumes. An original wooden hut made of bark servant marks the entrance. Rocks and wooded slopes form the framework for the brook that ever looks for water spraying up or stand quietly on his way through the rocks. Ferns, mosses and rocks line the narrow path and there is much to discover. Basically, the way back is to be recommended by the gorge. If this information is at the end of the gorge forest uphill climb to get around a forest to Kogel DONNERSBACHWALD road, crossed it and then you walk comfortably on a forest trail back to the starting point.
When you arrive by bike or eBike, leave it safely at the new Bike & Hike Station, you can charge the battery at the Gasthof Leitner and start off into the gorge hike with a relaxed pace.

At the starting point at Gasthof Leitner, there is also room for your car. Once your shoes are laced, jacket and backpack are with you, off you go. After about 10 minutes of walking, following the signs, you will reach the entrance to the gorge, going down a few steps along the narrow path surrounded by meadows and woods, with the creek flowing to the right of your track. On the way you pass sandbanks, where the many stones, marbled, with garnets and flints are a very special experience. Once you have reached the large meadow, which is covered with colourful flowers in spring, you can already see the woodcutter's hut and the model of a drift rake.
At the following water spring you can refresh yourself before the ups and downs of the path become more. Accompanied by the scent of damp moss, sorrel and wild strawberries, a unique feeling comes over you when walking on soft ground, sometimes even on roots and stones. Let your thoughts run free and marvel at the water's power as it plunges over the rocks into the depths. Here it is recommended to linger for a moment, breathe in the clear freshness and feel the wet splashes on the tip of your nose.
A glance upwards is enough to see the yellow lichen glowing from the rock. The path continues to the footbridge, up and down some steps, until you reach the calm bench along the gorge. There it is worth stopping before going up again after the "tunnel". At the top of the clearing you will find another bench for a rest. Follow the signs again through woods and meadows to the road. Once you have crossed the road, follow the forest path back to the starting point. Enjoy the flat stretch of the forest path, take a look at the mountain farms on the opposite side of the valley, review the route you have taken and simply rejoice! That makes sense.
