Savottapolku Trail is a circle trail that takes you time travelling into the ancient landscape and former logging sites. The steep terrain of the national park still shows signs of movements of the earth’s crust that happened millions of years ago; deep fracture lines and rift valleys. The ice masses of the Ice Age smoothed out the rock surfaces and left huge boulders behind. The Heretty and Lortikka Loggers’ Cabins are living memories of the logging lands of last century. You can’t miss the signs of hardworking beavers as they continue the lumberjack tradition on the shores of the forest ponds. Follow in the footsteps of the lumberjacks and take a memorable hike through the rustling trees of the wooded hills! The trail has several campsites where you can enjoy your snacks. During the summer, the smell of fresh coffee from Heretty Loggers’ Cabin is irresistible.
The trail description has been uploaded to the #Keski-Suomen retkeilyreitit maailmankartalle project, which was funded by the Central Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Although the trail is marked in the terrain, always take a map of the area with you. Be sure to take a first aid kit. In case of an emergency, call the emergency number 112. How to use the emergency number 112 in Finland?
The mobile phone signal in Isojärvi can be poor in some places due to the steep terrain and rocks.
There are campsites on the trail that are suitable for a short break or overnight camping. When the forest fire warning is in effect, fires are not allowed – even at the campfire sites. The one exception to this is the Kannuslahti cooking shelter, which has a fireplace with a flue.
The cliffs, rocky sections and duckboards can be slippery in the rain. Due to the varied and occasionally steep terrain and rocky ground, Savottapolku Trail is not suitable for people who have problems with their legs.
There is a well at Heretty. You should always boil natural water before drinking it.
