“When I die I will haunt the bishops, priests and Godless monks so much, that they will have more to do with the dead Luther than they would have with a thousand live ones”.
Today the Luther Chapel and the two ‘Luther chambers’ with their valuable pictures and the famous ‘Hedwig beaker’ remind us of the Reformer’s stay at Coburg Fortress. An audio-visual guide in both German and English at Coburg Fortress shows the most important places in Martin Luther’s life and in Coburg.
The Luther Library with its unique Cranach Bible and Luther's first prints is located in the state library at Ehrenburg Castle. Luther preached at St Moriz' church seven times during Easter week. A bust and a special exhibition dedicated to the Reformer can be seen there.
Martin Luther often stopped in the neighbouring town of Neustadt bei Coburg.
