The Luupään Lenkki Trail charms hikers with its ridges, mires and lake views. It is also a geological nature trail that takes you to the relaxing campfire hut by Lake Harjujärvi.
Luupään Lenkki Trail is a 2.3 kilometres long geological nature trail surrounded by the ridges, mires and lakes of Leivonmäki National Park. The information boards along the trail describe the geology of the national park and introduce such natural features as kettle holes, eskers, erratic boulders and the emblem animal of the park, the nightjar, which thrives in esker areas.
Don't forget to pack some snacks with you: there is a campfire hut along the route, by Lake Harjujärvi.
Towards the end of the trail is a track of 700 meters that is accessible to prams, push-chairs and wheelchairs.
Things to see
The route description was created in the #Keski-Suomen retkeilyreitit maailmankartalle project, funded by Central Finland's Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Consider combining the Kirveslammen kierros (1.7 km) trail to Luupään Lenkki trail - they both start at the same parking area.
The trail is easy and suits also families with children. The trail is narrow in places and some trees may have fallen onto the path. Note also that altitudes vary somewhat along the route.
Towards the end of the trail (from Harjujärvi campfire hut to Turasenlampi) there is a 700 meters long track which is accessible also for prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs (when assisted).
There is a trail map at Kirveslampi parking area. The trail is signposted on the terrain and there are blue paint marks. Recommended direction of travel: anti-clockwise.
Campfires and litter
Pay attention to forest fire warnings that are announced during dry periods - see the Finnish Meteorological Institute (en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi). Campfires may not be lit anywhere during forest fire warnings, so use a camping stove instead.
Do not litter. Carry your waste away in your rucksack.
Take drinking water with you as there are no places to fill your drinking bottles in the forest. The trail is easiest to walk when there is no snow on the ground. During the snowy season, snow shoes are recommended.
