This physically demanding stretch is another opportunity to enjoy a 360° view from Kitzbüheler Horn. The summit is at an altitude of almost 2000 m. There are multiple routes back down the mountain.
Initially, you will follow uphill woodland paths. You’ll then cross the ski pistes, which bloom with a colourful display of wild flowers, and pass the Alpine flower garden on your way to the summit. The path is steep in places, but well-maintained and accessible. After enjoying the views over lunch at Kitzbüheler Horn, you have two options for your onward journey to the Harschbichlbahn cable car station. Alternatively, you can continue to follow the KAT walk signs until you reach St. Johann.
Enjoy lunch at the Kitzbühel summit restaurant and enjoy views of the surrounding hills from their panoramic terrace.
Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.
A number of sections of this walk pass through fields containing livestock. Always look out for animals when entering a field. Keep your distance from the animals and remember to close gates after you.
Today’s walk is very easy-going; there are no tricky sections to navigate and no dizzying heights to worry about.
Always allow plenty of time for your hike. The specified walking times only refer to actual time spent walking. Breaks for photos and a rest need to be added to the specified times.
Make sure you find out about current weather conditions and keep an eye on weather changes. Thunderstorms can gather very quickly in the Alps.
Do not leave the designated hiking trails!
As you’ll be climbing and descending at significant heights, we recommend the use of trekking poles, particularly during your descent from Kitzbüheler Horn.
The weather can change rapidly in the mountains, so always carry waterproofs with you. Don’t forget that your exposure to sunlight increases and the temperature decreases as you climb to higher altitudes.
You don’t need a packed lunch for this hike. You can purchase a range of snacks and more substantial meals at the various lodges en route. Make sure you take enough water with you.
