The tour takes you along the old route of the Senda Sursilvana. This popular walk includes all degrees of difficulties, which make hiking in the mountains interesting, varied and near to nature. The route of the Senda Sursilvana is marked throughout with «SENDA SURSILVANA» on the official yellow walking signs of the BAW. With help of the GPS and sections of the map of GEO-Tracks you will find the different objects.
The «Rhätische Bahn» (RhB) transports the hikers from Ilanz to Disentis and from there you drive with the «Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn» (MGB) to Sedrun. The best thing to do is, to deposit your luggage in the hotel and start the first part at the train station Sedrun.
From the train station in Sedrun you walk along the train tracks direction Rueras to the Val Strem. In Rueras you will find the «Passivhaus». The path goes on to Camischolas, where it leads into the Oberalpstrasse.
Along the Oberalpstrasse, direction Disentis, the visitor will come to the information center of the Alp Transit Gotthard AG. The information center informs the visitor in an impressive way about the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
Before arriving at the end of the village direction Disentis, turn left into the Via dil Bogn and continue until the Bogn Sedrun. The architect Arthur Loretz constructed a wellness bath suitable for adults and children. Then continue until the railway bridge of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB). After that the path continues for a short part along the railway line passing the forest of Sedrun until Sedrun-Bugnei.
In Bugnei you will come to a very good foot path taking you to Mompé Tujetsch. From Mompé Tujetsch the Senda Sursilvana continues to Segnas through open fields with alp huts. Go through the village and follow the path signs to Acletta and then Disentis.
At the beginning of the Via Acletta there is a house made of straw, which was constructed by the architect Werner Schmidt. This is the first two-floored house made of straw which was built with a special building method. The weight of the building is completely supported by the straw balls. Along the Via Acletta, direction Oberalpstrasse you will see the Reka-houses constructed by the architects Fanzun and Sons. The four-storied houses are similar in proportion and design to the «Walser» houses.
Arriving at the Oberalpstrasse, the path continues to the right on the Via Cons until the Casa da Tgira Sursassiala (Old peoples home). In 1993 the Nursing home was planned by the architects Markus Gross and Werner Rüegg. The architecture of the building gives satisfaction to the eye because of its simpleness.
The route continues to the building of the Graubündner Kantonalbank. This building stands out because of its black rectangle form. It shows the elementaryism in modern architecture. Taking the Lukmanierstrasse towards the center of the village you will come to the latest building of the architect Gion A. Caminada, the boarding school for girls in the monastery of Disentis. Under the flat hip roof there is a compact cube of Italian style in plastered brickwork.
