A lovely easy going hike from the top of the Klewenalp cable car to Stockhuette cable car station.
An immensley rewarding short walk. After leaving behind the chalets and cafes of Kwenenalp, the short ascent on today's walk rewards with excellent views across the mountains and Lake Lucerne. After the first km you will reach your highest point of the walk - 1671m. From here it is all descent through forests, where small views open up across to the mountains. Stunning! The path in places does have very loose stones under foot, so do be careful, however, the path is well defined and there are ample places to perch and enjoy the sounds of the forest and hear mountain streams. The gondola journey to Emmetten provides excellent views across the lake and runs regularly, so there is no need to wait for a departure. Do check bus times from Emmetten to Beckenreid as they only run once an hour.
Just as with the longer walk option (Niederrickenbach), today is about savouring the crisp mountain air and experiencing Swiss mountain life. Just before begining the walk, the bakery 'Christian Beck' on the main street of Beckrenreid has some great breads and sandwiches you can supplement with food from the Volg supermarket just before cable car station. There are some great picnic spots once you leave the woods (about 500m before reaching Stockhutte. If it is a good weather is forecast, consider leaving early to make the most of being up high and in the peace of Swiss mountain life. There are plenty of places around the cable car station to grab a coffee and just enjoy a mountain high.
Do check the times of buses from Emmetten to Beckreid as these are only hourly. If the weather is good it is much more enjoybale to relax at the end of walk in Stockhutte: https://www.sbb.ch/
Always be prepared for a change in conditions and do wear weather appropriate kit. Always carry enough food and water with you and personal kit that is necessary to your well being. Good, sturdy walking shoes are required and if you usually walk with poles, you may like to use these today as you will be descending over uneven ground.
The routes are well marked and generally in very good condition. Much of the descent today will be on rough gravel dirt tracks. You may encounter livestock. Although docile, do keep your distance and walk calmly when passing cows, especially if they have calves.
Please be mindful of the start and finish of the walk as you will be walking through towns and on some smal sections of road where there might not be pedestrian walkways.
As per you walk yesterday, always check the weather before leaving Beckenreid. You will ascend by cable car to Kwenenalp (1593m). It is therefore it is possible to expect a change of conditions on. It's always useful to pack an extra layer, wind and waterproof layers along with sun protection. Do wear clothes comfortable for walking, ones which have quick drying properties are excellent in very hot or wet conditions.
Good footwear is essential. A good sturdy walking shoe will suffice but being a more challenging walk today, boots would be preferential. You may also like to use walking poles today to help soften some of the descents, especially over the uneven terrain.
Do take a supply of food and drink with you and any necessary medication, together with a very simple first aid kit.
Please refer to the kit provided in your information pack for a list of other suggested items.
Lastly - don't forget your maps and route notes!
