The Slot is a fun loop hike near Borrego Springs, California that is rated as moderate. It features beautiful flora and fauna. The slot canyon in Anza Borrego is one of those hikes that you never realized you had right in California.
Anza-Borrego is discovered in the Slot. There, the geological landscape opens up, revealing the land defeated by time and water. Walking easily through the narrow siltstone canyon of the Slot is an exciting adventure in the desert, like an attraction Mother Nature would have created. In addition, it is located southwest of Borrego Springs and the dusty road leading to it is passable by cars. The entrance to the canyon is not very well indicated, but it is obvious. Follow the countless footprints that descend more than 6 metres into the crevasse, turn left and follow the slight descent. The canyon tightens almost immediately and you will have to sneak between walls whose width is sometimes less than a shoulder width. The pink and beige siltstone of the Slot, enhanced by the blue of the sky, offers splendid photos.
Not far from the entrance, you will pass under a natural gravity defying bridge, a block placed in a precarious position in a narrow gorge, before the canyon widens and joins the jeep route. This is where you will turn back to your car and enjoy the magic of the Slot again.
