A nice walk with lots of history and forgotten things to see and discover about the old railway in Belgium.
We stayed in an awesome simpel, back to basic AirBnB lodge in Sippenaken in Belgium, very close to the Dutch border so within 10 minutes you're in tge South of Limburg in the Netherlands near Vijlen, Epen, Vaals.
From the abandonned track near Hombourg where the rails have been taken away but all the signs, old bridges etc are still there. You walk the line untill the old trainstation in Hombourg which is a nice restaurant and a lot of old traincars, rail-parts and locomotives are still there.
Furtheron you take the paved road to the next small town called Montzen (B) where there is a complete abandonned trainstation with 4 out-of-use rails. The building is old, dangerous and it is by law not allowed to enter but the fence is open and even a lot of locals walk their dogs there, have a picknick and just hang out there. It's at your own risk, but awesome to explore!
The way back starts over the paved roaduntil youhead off through some fields on smaller paths and straight back to the lodge in Sippenaken.
A true recommendation!

A very simple, old and easy going cottage but cosy and complete with awesome views, a terrace and wood to burn in the stove.
Awesome way to get some peace and rest.
Read a little about the old trainrailway and what it was used for before you head of. It's good done with older kids which will find it a real adventure to discover the abandonned traincars all over the railway and to walk towards the old trainstation in Hombourg and even further in Montzen.
It's a firm walk but the reward for the explore is awesome too!
Be very carefull at the traintracks and especially if you visit the abandonned trainstation in Montzen. It is officially prohibited to enter the terrain but people come there very often, even locals walk their dogs there.
If you go inside the trainstation be very aware of the fact that it is an old and abandonned place and there is no maintanance being done there and it is at your own risk!

The view is awesome, the atmosphere is so relaxed and it is almost if you go back in time. There is no TV, wifi and you need to burn wood in the stoes to get warm and dry. So relaxed!
