Today there are 2 choices of walks. You can either walk straight out of Domme and walk the full 18.6km
Today’s wonderful day of walking takes you out of Domme and next to the Dordogne River along a quiet track. See the fortifications of Castelnaud in the distance, before crossing the river and strolling into the incredible towering stronghold of Beynac, once besieged by Richard the Lionheart. A break here is highly recommended and you can follow the narrow (and steep!) lanes up to the chateau and perhaps enjoy lunch in a café terrace with stunning views over the river.
Continue through the serene countryside to dramatic La Roque Gageac and its overhanging cliffs and ochre-coloured stone houses sheltering underneath.
A sturdy pair of walking trainers are adequate for this route
Points of Interest
The Château de Castelnaud, stands high over the Dordogne valley, with magnificent views of the châteaux of Beynac and Marqueyssac and the medieval village of La Roque-Gageac.
Nested between cliff and river, the walk up through Beynac on tiny paved streets to the château's doors is steep but truly rewarding. The views from the top are amazing.
