Equipped with special water shoes and hiking poles we rented early in the morning at a sports shop in Springdale village right at the park entrance, we take the shuttle to its last stop (station #9).
From here, the route starts with a leisurely walk along the Virgin River (following the signpost Riverside Walk). A short walk leads us to a point that seems to be the end of the route, but the number of people walking right into the river shows us where exactly the more interesting and challenging part of the route begins.
From here, we just follow the river. The depth of the water varies from season to season and from section to section. Always pay attention to warning signs.
In this one-way route, you can walk for many miles depending on your ability and stamina. Although not a particularly difficult route physically, over time, a long walk in the water, can be tiring (keep in mind: you also need energy for the way back). Also take into account that your feet, despite the special water shoes and socks, are wet throughout the tour and the water can be quite cool also during the summer months. Consider wearing/renting a wetsuit.
You can split the route at the Orderville Canyon or just keep walking along the road up the Virgin River. Getting to the river's origins involves walking for many miles and even going for a swim - just go to a point that is right for you and return the same way.
Along with all the instructions and warnings, this is a wonderful, beautiful and experiential route worth experiencing if the weather conditions allow it.

* Pay attention to the weather and ask if there is a flood warning.
* The route is challenging for children
* There are several sports/nature shops in the village of Springdale on the edge of the park where you can hire special shoes and water socks and walking sticks. It is not advisable to walk this route without this equipment. You can also rent suitable neoprene clothes.
* Note that there are no services on the way, only at the point where you get off the shuttle.

Turn-by-turn directions
Get off at the last stop of the shuttle (station 9) "Temple of Sinawava" and turn left. Follow the path until you reach the point where the promenade ends and the path begins directly in the river. From here you can walk in the river bed as far as your ability and desire allow.
The route leads mostly through shallow to knee-high water. In some places, the water can be deeper. Later you can always turn right to the Orderville Canyon path or continue to follow the river bed. Both routes offer unforgettable views.
If you want to walk a large section, it is advisable to take one of the earliest shuttles in the morning.

Public transport
Access to the venue during the spring, summer and fall months is via the park's internal shuttle service. To access this route, get off at the 9 (and last) stop of the shuttle of the Sinawava Temple.Parking
