On the In Style version of this trip, enjoy a relaxing start this morning with a scenic boat trip from St. Goar as you float by several castles, including Pfalzgrafenstein, perched on a rock in the middle of the Rhine.
Disembark in the wine village of Aßmannshausen, then walk the last few miles to Rüdesheim and to romantic wine Hotel Rüdesheimer Schloss.
Your Rheinsteig walk may be nearing its close, but of course, the best is saved for last, with a multitude of wonderful wine experiences! Take it easy today with a leisurely boat trip down the Rhein to the red wine region of Assmannshausen, then walk about 6km to the Riesling-paradise of Rüdesheim.
If you feel like taking it easy today, you can take the Aßmannshausen chairlift up to the hunting lodge of Niederwald, then enjoy a forest walk before taking the cable car down to Rüdesheim.
Celebrate having walked one of Germany’s Top Trails, with a well-deserved glass or two of local wine in one of the taverns on the lively Drosselgasse; a cobbled street filled with wine bars, shops and restaurants.

Turn-by-turn directions
Take the boat from St. Goar to Assmanshausen. From Assmanshausen to Rüdesheim, continue to follow the well-waymarked path.
Those who wish can take the chair lift to the Niederwald hunting lodge; everyone else can reach the lodge on foot by taking the forest path. It was here at the end of the 18th century that Count Carl Amor Maria von Ostein wanted to replicate the Rococo style and built the most beautiful park on the Rhine of its time, with a hermitage, the Rossel viewing tower, knights' hall and magic cave. All that's missing now is the very famous view from the Germania, as the locals call the huge bronze statue above Rüdesheim. End your walk-in lovely Rüdesheim.
