WesterwaldSteig adventure loop "Romantic Lake District"
From the hiking car park at the entrance to Dreifelden, we start our round trip over the Wiedweg in the direction of Dreifelden. After a few meters we reach the HAC030 signpost and thus also the WesterwaldSteig trail. From here the WesterwaldSteig will show us the way. We follow the green W on a white background, past the Dreifelder Weiher and 2 km further to the Postweiher, which gives the Westerwald lake district its name. The ponds are connected to each other by canals. The Wied, the largest river in the Westerwald, also flows through the Dreifelder Weiher. The entire area of the lake district is protected by the landscape.
linger a little on the bank of the Dreifelder Weiher, follow the birds from the viewing platform with your eyes and let the calm lake affect your soul. When the weather is nice or in the early evening hours there is hardly any reason to leave this place. Certainly an insider tip for the thinkers and poets of our time to form new ideas for current affairs. But we would like to continue to conquer the lake district on foot and thus follow the WesterwaldSteig for about 2 km to the Postweiher. In between we cross the forest playground, which quickly transports us back to our childhood days.
From the bank of the Postweiher, your gaze wanders to the nearby lido, where you can swim, paddle or go pedal boating. On the outskirts of Freilingen it goes past and on over the WesterwaldSteig over the plateaus with meadows and fields to the nature reserve Wölferlinger Weiher and then on the Schwengersberg. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view at an altitude of 463 m. The WesterwaldSteig-Bank offers the perfect opportunity to take a break and literally inhale the pure Westerwald air.
Another 1 km in the direction of Rothenbach, then it's time to say goodbye to the WesterwaldSteig. Because then we cross the main hiking trail II (white II on black background), which leads us back to Dreifelden. At the same time, the 7 Weiher path (blue 7 on a white background) runs along this section of the path. Along the edges of the forest and through beautiful indoor forests, but also on wider farm roads to expire, it is a quick step towards Dreifelden. From the last hill just before the entrance to Dreifelden, we can once again overlook the Dreifelder Weiher with its entire extent and its stately splendor from above. In Dreifelden we meet again on the Westerwald-Steig. Passing the oldest stone church in the Westerwald, we come back to the Dreifelder Weiher, on the banks of which we stroll along to the HAC030 signpost. From there it goes again over the Wiedweg the few meters to the hiking car park and a hiking day with some romantic views and moments comes to an end.
