On this route through the Provençal countryside, you’ll see the castle from many angles and get a wonderful sense of its imposing architecture.
A stroll where nature blends with the scents of thyme and history!Leaving the village, you take the circuit that smells of the garrigue. It allows you to contemplate the fortress from different angles and to appreciate its imposing architecture.
The fortress can be visited and animations will plunge you into the life of the castle in the 13th century. It is by going around this rocky spur that one understands the defensive role played by the fortress during the Hundred Years' War.

Turn-by-turn directions
- START AT THE FOUNTAIN,and head down Rue des Bourgades towards Laouzière. Turn left into Chemin des Issards. Take care when going under the railway tracks.
- 2 TAKE THE DIRT TRACKON THE LEFT SIGNPOSTED CANTARELLE, which crosses the old Pierrelatte canal and then runs alongside it for about 100 m. Bear left onto the small uphill path lined with dry stone walls that wends its way between former quarries. Take care to keep away from the edges! Above the main quarry, the path continues through unspoilt countryside and joins a more pronounced track that goes up to the right.
- 3 AT CANTARELLE, the path joins a firebreak trail that you follow towards Chapelle Saint-Baudile. After passing in front of the chapel, you head towards the fortress on a path that winds through native shrubs and rocky lime stone outcrops. Take care on the steps.
- 4 TO RETURN TO THEVILLAGE CENTRE, FOLLOW THE MORNAS SIGN down the fortress’s main access lane, then along the road between the church of Notre Dame de Val Romigier and the cemetery, and under the railway tracks to get back to the Place de la Fontaine.
