If you’re looking for a family-friendly hike with sweeping views the entire way, hiking from Båtskaret to Gravolskampen Mountain is a good choice. At the start of the hike, you’ll have views towards the mountains Heklefjellet and Bitihorn. When reaching the top, you can see Vinstre Lake and Gausdalsfjella Mountains in the northeast, and Jotunheimen National Park towards the northwest. On warm summer days, it’s possible to take a swim in one of the lakes along the trail.
There may be some muddy areas on the trail, so be sure to wear waterproof shoes.
If you continue driving north from the trailhead for about 5 minutes, you'll reach Bygdin Høyfjellshotell, a cozy mountain lodge. The lodge serves great food, including an excellent breakfast, and has a bar.
There are many accommodation options to choose from in Beitostølen. Stay at Radisson Blu Mountain Resort Beitostølen if you're looking for Scandinavian cuisine as well as spa facilities. Beitostølen Hytter is a good option if apartment or cabin accommodation is what you're after.
- There are several small lakes to take a swim in along the trail. If the weather’s nice, it’s a good idea to bring a towel and a swimsuit. You can also fill up your water bottle.

- Shops and restaurants are available in Beitostølen.
Note: buses between Beitostølen and Leirvassbu (Lom) only operate in summer, approximately from late June through August.
From Oslo, head north on Road E16 towards Bergen for 185 kilometers. When you reach Fagernes, follow the signs to Road 51 towards Vågå/Beitostølen. Drive on Road 51 for about 40 kilometers until you reach Beitostølen.
Continue past Beitostølen for about 6.5 kilometers towards Båtskaret. There’s a parking lot on the right side of the road, by Båtskardstølane.
Note: Parts of Road 51 (between Garli and Maurvangen) is closed during winter and typically open from April to December.
