Simplonpass - Homatta - Simplon Dorf
The Simplon high-altitude trail leads from the Simplon hospice in a southeasterly direction to Rotelsee. From the lake, follow the well-marked path in a southerly direction. We cross the western flank of the Hübschhorn and an impressive alpine flora accompanies us. Passing small mountain lakes we reach the Hohliecht vantage point. This is the turning point for walkers.
The path now bends around a rocky edge into Hohweng, the southwest flank of the Hübschhorn. The path then leads directly between the pedestals of a high-voltage pylon. Here you have to choose the path straight ahead. The old path led down to the valley on the right. Sometimes up and sometimes down we reach the shepherd's hut at the Balma and cross the Walibach. Now we are in the Alpe Hohmatta, where we have time for a rest.
Shortly before the two wooden huts in Hohmatta a signpost points downhill. But we continue in the same direction Hohbielestaful and continue on the good zigzag path through the Chastelberg forest to Simplon Dorf.
