Yorkshire Dales, Bolton Abbey to Barden Bridge
Disabled Ramblers
From the Bolton Abbey Cavandish Pavilion by the river car park, cross the wooden bridge and turn left up a track. Just before joining the road, there is a dangerous section of track where erosion on the left meets a tree root on the right. At the road turn left. Expect traffic!
Continue past the 400-year-old Laund Oak. Continue and at the T junction, turn left onto a bigger road where even more care is needed. Descend steeply to Barden Bridge. Before crossing the bridge there is a lunch spot by the river on the left in Barden Bridge car park.
Cross the bridge and pass through a narrow gate with a step down to the track. It might be possible to have the gate which is 20 meters further on opened instead.
Continue along the right bank of the River Wharfe towards The Strid.
IMPORTANT In Strid Woods but before The Strid, take the turning RIGHT up towards Strid Cafe to the point where a track leads down left towards The Strid and Bolton Abbey. This is to avoid an impassable, dangerous, narrow, rocky section of track high above the river with a sheer drop to the river. (you can, of course, continue to the Cafe for refreshments.)
This track joins up with the river bank track and continues to The Strid where there are good views of the rapids but take great care on the slippery rocks. Continue back to the cafe at the Cavendish Pavilion and car park.
