Day walk around the west end of the Isle of Wight. Arriving at Yarmouth by ferry from Lymington, we started walk at 08:30 over bridge and turned south down Freshwater trail -  a mix of woodland, some road and stream marsh land(which is probably very wet at times). Arriving at Freshwater Bay, start long , but staedy and not too steep climb to Tennyson monument, for spectacular views across the island and beyond. Then on to the Needles - worth a visit to the Needles Battery(National Trust) where you can get a coffee, tea, cakes or lunch.
Then turn north and east climbing through gorse and heather to Headon Warren, which in the September sunshine was gorgeous, and then down to sealevel onto paved paths next to the beach. Stopped for late lunch(about 14:30) at the Hut in Colwell Bay: good cooking, loveley seafood and a glass of rose, not cheap but classy place. Onwards to Yarmouth, a pretty coastal village, before the 17:05 ferry back to Lymington.
Relatively easy walk in the dry  but some of the climbs and alongside the river would be more tricky if it had been wet or was raining.
