From Wrinehill this walk crosses the countryside towards Heighley before moving right to pass through Bowsey Wood. Then down to Madeley where you turn right and head towards Checkley before turning right again and returning to Wrinehill.

Distance 13.2 km
The route firstly heads in the direction of Heighley before turning right to negotiate Bowsey Wood (twice as it is disected by Bowseywood Farm). The route then follows Heighley Castle Way (not on the road at first) before arriving at Madeley. Passing by the short side of Madeley Pool you then follow the River Lea valley, at first very closely then at Lowermill House you move further away before returning at Wrinehill Mill a mile or so later. Crossing the border into Cheshire you pass by Checkley before returning into Staffordshire as you cross the Railway Line and return to the starting point.
On re-walking the route in 2018 I have made two adjustments. Firstly I have moved the start/end of the walk from roadside to The Hand and Trumpet pub car park. Secondly I have replaced a small section of road at Heighley Castle Way/New Road to cut the corner by using a footpath through a wooded area. This has not affected the length of the walk.
The route passes The Madeley Centre (New Road, Madeley) and this could be used as an alternative place to start and finish this walk.
Allow up to 3.75 hours
I use Waypoints in order to precisely follow the route (and rarely for any other purpose). I have found this invaluable when you are unsure where the path is.
