A circular walk taking in part of the Wessex Ridgeway
moderate
Distance 3.9 km
Starting from Water Meadows Cottage & The Old Coach House
The first part of this walk is uphill but you’ll be rewarded with stunning views over the valley.
Turn left out of our driveway and follow the road down to a junction. Go straight over towards the railway station passing the village hall on your right.
Keep left, walking under the railway bridge passing an allotment on your left. Carry on up the track for quite some way; it gets gradually steeper as you walk. Keep going as far as you can go and you’ll come to a farmer’s field directly ahead, the track veers off to the right.
Follow track along where you’ll see the village below and stunning rolling countryside. Keep going and you’ll come to a well-worn farm track on your right which goes downhill. Follow this and you’ll pass a water treatment plant and small holding with lots of geese, chickens and duckson your right. The road then veers left under a railway bridge.
Keep walking, you’ll pass a farm house to your left before coming out on the main road back into Maiden Newton. Turn right and you’ll find yourself back in the village, turn right at the corner stores, past the church and turn right down an alleyway. This comes back out on Cattistock Road where turning left takes you back to the cottage.
