The ramble starts above the village of Aber, near the coast, and goes inland up into the Carneddau mountain range. It rises up steep hills using lanes and tracks up into a remote valley ending at Llyn Anafon reservoir.

Turn off the A55 and climb up through Aber (Abergwyngregyn) to the car park for Aber Falls where there are toilets.
If possible, continue by vehicle to the upper car park where there are spaces for about 6 vehicles. This is a 1:5 hill on a narrow lane.
Leave the small car park and turn left up hill on a rough track with a wall on the left. At the top of this section, the main track turns right while this ramble turns hair-pin right almost back on itself. Continue along this track to Llyn Anafon.
