A 1 mile Circular WALKING/HIKING route from Hillside B&B Durness, to Smoo Cave, then returning via the sink hole where the water enters the roof of Smoo cave.
moderate
Distance 1.5 km
Notes:
This is a walking route, using both roads and proper footpaths.
It sets off from, and finishes at Hillside B&B, which is my favourite B&B in the area, if not the UK, but you can omit this if you wish, and simply start and finish at the car park at the top of the Cave (all already covered in this route anyway).
It rises and falls, using steps in many locations, thus is wholly unsuitable for wheelchairs, prams, etc.
It is Child friendly provided they have Adult Supervision, as there are cliff edges, but along clearly marked paths with fences which are fine if adhered to. And is Dog Friendly if kept on a lead and controlled - don't let your dog cause a child to fall/get injured!
Mapping may be slightly off once at the mouth of the cave, as Satellite Imagery differs fractionally from the Open Street Map location for the footbridge over the stream - follow whichever is appropriate at the time. There is also a tiny section (30 foot) that doesn't appear to follow a well marked footpath - just look for the gate straight in front of you at the roadside, and that's where to head (i.e. follow the included waypoints).
Enjoy!
