A 4 mile circular walk from Skelwith Bridge near Ambleside. Park on the roadside or near the slate works and shops. The route immediately passes the Skelwith Force waterfall, along the River Brathay up the beautiful Langdale valley to Elterwater lake and village. This first half of the walk is on a wide gravel path and is completely flat. There's a great opportunity for a pub stop at the Britannia Inn in Elterwater village where you can sit and have a drink on the village green on a summers day. The route continues up the hillside on the quiet road up to the Langdale Youth Hostel where you can either cut through the tree lined gardens or continue past for a view of Grasmere. The road then drops back down to the farm track around the top edge of Loughrigg Tarn with it's beautiful scenery and then it's all downhill on the road back to Skelwith Bridge.
