The route starts with a tough 195m ascent in 1.3km from the Shere recreation ground to Netley Heath and then follows the North Downs Way before descending to the village of Wotton at 7.7km.
Over the next 7km the route proceeds in a southerly direction to gradually ascend 183m to the Leith Hill tower.
From here the route heads west, passing through Holmbury St Mary, and then ascends Holmbury Hill before descending to the Duke of Kent School at just over half way - 21.3km.
From the Duke of Kent school the route ascends Pitch Hill and, thereafter, there is a wonderful 9.1km descent through Winterfold Wood, Farley Heath and Blackheath before crossing through Chilworth village.
Enjoy the 9.1k descent because at 31.5km comes the sting in the tail - a 100m ascent in 600m to the summit of St Martha's Hill... very painful on tired legs! This is followed by a sharp 60m descent and 60m ascent followed by a gradual ascent over the next 4.4km before finally descending the last 1.3km down to the finish back at Shere recreation ground.
