This route starts at Aberdare rail station and crosses through to the town via the footbridge over the A4059. Go east on Commercial Street, then Canon Street. Cross high street into the Gadlys car park and locate the shared use path that climbs up to Dare Valley Country Park. The follow the Penrhiwllech Trail that leads up on to the Craig Pen-rhiw-llech ridge and it amazing wide open views. The drop down to Pont Lluest-wen bridge (15) crossing the bridge follow the footpath into the forest via point (16) and then join a smooth forest track at point (36). Follow the forest track though points 17-31-37-32-until you arrive at junction 33. Follow the track in a southerly direction downhill which gives great views of the Rhondda Fawr. Just past the old colliery buildings leave the track (38) and follow the path to zig zag down through the forest until an access track is reached (39). Follow Ynysfeio Avenue, John Street and Mary Street to the main road (A4016) of Bute Street. Going North West follow Bute Street until the signs for Treherbert Station can be seen.
