A two night wild camping trek from Okehampton to Ivybridge. No particular difficulties but I've marked it as hard as endurance will be required to cover the distance with overnight gear and the weather is highly unpredictable.
Distance 50.4 km
I planned and walked this route in July 2019 so it is field tested. I started from Bristol, getting the train to Exeter St Davids then the 6A bus to Okehampton, arriving at 1PM. Purchased last minute supplies from local shops then headed to the moor via the old station (only scenic trains now but there are toilets for a last visit). I stopped before Cullever steps for a swim and sunbathe and topped up water then headed onwards. As I crossed the Taw I stopepd for a cuppa and filtered 2L of water for the overnight camp ahead at Hanginstone Hill. This was a great spot given the hot day but beware of stopping here in high winds. Started day 2 in thick cloud which cleared rapidly as I headed on towards lunch at Postbridge (well stocked village shop with hot food and drinks available plus picnic benches). Then headed on to Hexworthy where I stopped for another swim and sunbathe by the West Dart River. Then walked up and over Ryder Hil then down to camp 2 by the river Avon above the Avon Dam reservoir. Slept in `till breakfast at 09.00 and struck camp by 10.00 for a leisurely walk following the excellent Two Moors Way back towards Ivybridge. Stopped for a long lunch and sunbathe, arriving in Ivybridge at 15.00 to get a pot of tea in Hettie's tea rooms before catching the 17.11 train back to Bristol.
