Starting at the Cabin Cafe on Barley Picnic site, which is located within the Bowland AONB, Lancashire, this route provides great views of Barley and the surrounding area. The Ogden reservoirs built in the early 1900s to provide water for the industrial town of Nelson are now maintained by United Utilities. The route is moderately steep and the entire route is on surfaced roads or tracks which lead to the upper Ogden reservoir dam which provides a great viewpoint to survey the surrounding valley. The route can be extended by taking the steep, surfaced track to Buttock (SD80834006) providing further views of the surrounding countryside before returning to the start point. A super picnic spot can be found (SD81243987) just above the lower Ogden reservoir although some steps need to be negotiated to get to it.
