An easy route with fabulous views north over Bilsdale, South over the plain of York and also to the east.
Distance 14.7 km
A good surface throughout with no ruts along its length. In Nov 2016 small pools of water were on the first part of the track but we're easily avoided. The initial part is alongside a cleared part of forestry but then the views become visible. The gentle climb to Helmsley Bank road then descends through woodland to the carpark. Dropping into the valley the return track is once again smooth and easy going being a steady climb alongside forestry operations until Helmsley Bank road is reached once again. The whole route is without hazards but good batteries are needed. The views make the route well worth doing.
