A fun walk that goes round the sides of Loughrigg and then round the summit plateau. Summits twice. Includes Rydal Cave and the steps up to the summit from the Terrace.

Distance 13.9 km
Park at Tarn Foot. Take the bridleway (BW) NE to the base of Ivy Crag then follow the BW along the wall line E round the foot of the Crag. Continue NE on the BW then before the next wall line strike S then SE on a path towards Todd Crag. Leave Todd Crag going E on a path to Lily Tarn then descend NE to Miller Brow. Skirt the wall line going E then N to drop down to the lane at Fox How. Follow this lane to Pelter Bridge.
Go left just before the bridge and follow the road on to the path past Steps End and back onto the Open Access Land. Stay on the higher path and walk W via Rydal Cave, which can be entered on the stepping stones - look out for the fish - great photo opportunity from the back of the cave. Continue W to Loughrigg Terrace with fine views over Rydal Water and Grasmere. Towards the end of the Terrace a flight of rock steps leads up the side of Loughrigg to the summit trig pt.
Take a path going NNE to begin a circular tour of the plateau, Using this trace as a guide, skirt Scartufts and Black Mire before returning NW to the summit.
Now descend steeply and carefully WSW and towards the foot of the slope turn SSE to Loughrigg Tarn. An easy path leads round the Tarn and back to Tarn Foot.
