Marcus DeanFrom High Salter, summiting Ward's Stone and Wolfhole Crag from this side in a "there and back" route.
difficult
Distance 21.2 km
Having Summitted Ward's Stone from the Abbeystead side, a solo walker now needs to do it again from the High Salter side. Then, the rest of stage 33 across Wolfhole Crag can be covered before dropping down onto the Hornby Road.
Much of this part of the route is on open access land with paths which can be unclear, particularly in poor weather. The ground is also very likely to be boggy underfoot.
There is some parking in High Salter, although it is unclear what belongs to the farm and what is public land so park with care. A longer alternative may be to start in Hornby and combine stage 33 B & C, but this will make for a long route with some difficult terrain.
