This 7 mile route takes in the stretch of Windermere lakeside that is actually open to the public to walk on. Most of the lakeshore on Windermere is private but the stretch from the ferry to Wray Castle is a notable exception. The route covers most of this stretch but can be made longer or shorter according to where you choose to start from. This route is about the middle choice of lengths.
It is a well made up path but stout footwear is advisable. Be aware that cyclists also use this pathway.
Wray Castle is worth a look with its connections to the beginnings of the National Trust and also Beatrix Potter. Unusually for a Trust property, it is extremely child friendly, with lots to see and do, both inside and out. There is also a cafe and toilets.
