This route was designed and published on ViewRanger by Tony Kemp-Jones. I have added more detail to the complex footpaths, moved one short section from road to footpath and taken out the link to the inn in Cudham. Otherwise, this is Tony Kemp-Jones's route (thank you, Tony).
Even though the route lies in London, it feels rural once Hayes has been left behind; one walks over scrubland, through woods and through fields (arable and with sheep and horses).
On Hayes Common there are a number of benches for rest; other benches are to be found at Wilberforce Oak and by the sports field behind the church in Cudham.
Prehistoric and historic sites include earthworks on Keston Common, The Wilberforce Oak and monument, and Down House, where Charles Darwin lived.
