Hamble to Netley Abbey

From Hamble Station use the rail trail to avoid the busy Hamble Lane for a bit. Short walk then required although you can cut across Mount Pleasant Park adjacent to Hamble Primary School to pick up the path. This will take you to the cemetery of the former Royal Victoria Military Hospital which is worth for an interesting history lesson. Graves date from mid 19th century, mainly WW1 with names from across the former empire. There are also enemy combatant graves from WW1 mixed in with the British soldiers which I've never seen before.
Leaving the cemetery you walk around a stream then head into the park skirting the boundary of the Police College denoted by the wall. 
At the end of the park you head for the shoreline. Part of the path around Sophie's pond has been fenced off but an alternative way round is easily found.
You then walk through Netley to the Abbey (free entry).
From here you can take a bus back to Hamble or head for Netley station.
