The route starts up Hawk Combe following the stream in ancient woodland and using a good track, used by land Rovers etc.
After a couple of ford crossing and division of the valley the track turns west and north steeply up the valley side to emerge on grassland and open heath.
Cross the A39 at a cattle grid and continue northwards with excellent views to the high moor and over the coasts to South Wales (weather permitting).
Descend towards Porlock Weir using a succession of minor road sections and bridleways, entering woods along a track until it joins the Porlock to Porlock Weir road. Follow the road back to Porlock.
