A pleasant circular route around Vaynor taking in a number of nature reserves and the Taff Trail
moderate
Distance 16.7 km
The entrance into the Cil Sanws nature reserve is from the corner of the Merthyr Golf Course car park and takes you up onto Cefn Cil-Sanws before walking onto Garn Ddu. I followed the paths across the moorland and some pretty boggy areas where the duckboards were covered in water to the Ponsticill Reservoir dam. I followed the river down the valley via road and the Taff Trail before branching off down a narrow footpath and across the river. You can detour to visit the deserted Vaynor church before continuing along the riverside path back to Cefn-Coed y Cymmer
