Day 12 Y Cribyn from the North

This may not be the longest day by miles of my challenge but it's up there as the biggest so far for sure.The biggest navigational challenge is finding the National Trust car park for the start of the walk.It's a fine walk up Cefn Cwm Llwch I'd imagine but I couldn't see it due to the low cloud and snow. It's not a sharp ridge but you do need to be careful with navigation if visability is poor especially when you approach the summit of Pen y Fan. Unlike the Pont ar Daf route this northern approach means you have the edge of the near vertical face of Pen y Fan to get up. Fear not it is only a short section but you will need to use your hands a bit as you scramble up and onto the summit plateaux. From then you follow the horseshoe round to Y Cribarth and then Fan y Big. ON Fan y Big you'll find "the diving board" for the obligatory impressive and somewhat scarey looking photos. I followed the Cefyn Cyff ridge down before looping back through the lanes and a short path through fields and a farm before the final sting of the steep road back into the car park where your legs will remind you that it's not always the amount of miles that counts!
