Route used by Scouts from 1974 to 199? The hike was held in memory of Cyril Gardner, who served as chairman of the 10th Oxford Scout group and as an executive committee member for Scouts in the Headington area.
Distance 48.5 km
The route was originally created in 1974 and has changed over the years to accomodate boundary changes. Groups of 3 cubs and scout, later changed to groups of 4, would compete to see who could complete the route in the fasted time. It used to start and finish at Bayswater school in Barton however. I have changed it slightly to make it start and finish at shotover which was on the original route. Thre was a rest stop at Brill where hot food was provided.
