Simon Armitage was inspired by the Pennine watershed to write a series of poems, each now carved into the local gritstone at seven sites between Marsden and Ilkley. These poems explore the relationship between landscape and language in this corner of West Yorkshire. This 6 ¼ mile (10km) walk seeks out the Stanza Stone closest to the poet’s home town of Marsden, as well as the Pennine Way, which inspired Simon’s own long distance travelogue - ‘Walking Home’.
