This walk starts at Castlefields Park Calne, follows the old Chippenham and Calne railway line past Black Dog Halt, (this used to be the private station for the Bowood Estate), on the way to Pewsham, where the Lysley Arms or the Lansdowne Arms are great places to stop for lunch. The return to Calne passes through the Golden Gates and along 7.5 Kilometers of public footpaths through the Bowood Estate, parts of which head around the Beautiful Bowood Lake.
(The cycleway at Blackdog Station is closed to all traffic every thursday 9am-3.30 from November-February inclusive, if you do the route on these thursdays you would have to follow the A4 to Pewsham)
